Forrest Hatfield and the Web development gurus from SLO-based ITECH Solutions have turned the tables on the local Food Bank with the ultimate gift for non-techies: a flashy new Web site … The intriguing tale of The Serapis, a British frigate captured by John Paul Jones during the American Revolution, remains afloat with support from former CellOne CEO Dave Pruett and wife, Amy. Her dad, the late Dick Swete, led the search for the sunken vessel. BCA donated The Serapis Project Web site …  The recent seismic retrofit of Mission San Luis Obispo, the  first comprehensive overhaul of the historic church in 60 years, has an illuminating sidebar.  A beautiful candle chandelier pictured in an early photo of  the sanctuary has been reproduced by Solvang blacksmith Hans Duus and engineered and installed by Bill Thoma.

This month’s Wine Spectator recommends Edna Valley Vineyard’s 2006 Syrah as a top value Rhone-style wine. See if you can taste the smoky cedar and tobacco notes … We always knew John Ewan was a big kid.  And now he’s getting the Robert H. Janssen Award from the SLO Youth Sports Assn. The former SLO City Councilman and owner of Pacific Energy Company will be honored at the March 21 girls softball opener at Laguna Middle School … Wayne Hughes, owner of the former home to Idler’s Appliance at 13th and Park in Paso Robles, received the Paso Chamber’s “Beautification of the Year Award”  for his transformation of the landmark building …  Jennifer Emerson of Progeny Advanced Genetics, the worldwide developer of lettuce seed, and hubby, Doug, of the Apio veggie company,  have produced some progeny of their own: newborn twins Aidan and Abigail … The SLO Chamber of Commerce took home Web site honors at the 2009 Western Association of Chamber Executives conference. Accolades were for easy navigation, great content and beautiful photos, plus robust visitor info.
