Think globally, drink “SLOcally.” The first-ever Brews and Bites benefit for ECOSLO will kick off Labor Day Weekend with beer tastings by local brewers, food and entertainment, Saturday, Aug. 5, at Mission Plaza in SLO. Event organizers are Einhorn Beer‘s Doug Martin and Creekside Brewing‘s John Moule, with members of the San Luis Brewers Guild … Santa Marians are “Wild About Partnerships.” Especially those that support local schools. The Santa Maria Valley Industry Education Council and the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce & Visitor and Convention Bureau will recognize school partnerships at the annual Business Appreciation Luncheon Sept. 9 at the Elks Lodge. They will also distribute computers through the Computer Connections program for needy children. The 2009 California Mid-State Fair was the first fair in the country to have an iPhone app. And, the fair used Twitter this year to reach a younger audience – a promo that worked so well, it will continue throughout the year for other big fairground events … Continuing its effort to attract additional carriers, the SLO County Regional Airport is looking to the community for matching funds for a Small Community Air Service Development Grant for marketing.
