If you aren’t quite sure what “FourSquare,” “Loopt,” “Blippy,” “Groupon” and “Google Buzz” have to do with anything, take a minute to read more about new players in the social media world. BCA can help you make sense of it all.
FourSquare: Users “check-in” with local businesses who offer incentives such as free appetizers to the most frequent users.
Google Buzz: Users can post pictures and videos to a profile and their network is created based on who they frequently interact with through Gmail. Public profile updates and user comments about businesses can be seen on Google mobile maps.
Loopt: Users are able to see each other on a map and businesses use Loopt to offer discounts and coupons to those who are near their establishments.
Blippy: A controversial site that posts (when permission is granted) what users have bought and how much they paid; other users can then comment. This has the potential to be a valuable trending tool for retailers.
Groupon: Companies offer deals to groups of people who band together to buy items at discounted prices and offers businesses the chance to expose many people to their products or services all at once.
