GOOD WORKS

July 16th, 2010

Lee Johnson is a senior exec at Collaboration in San Luis Obispo, and his wife Christine also knows a thing or two about bringing people and plans together. Christine was a member of the all-volunteer Morro Bay 4th event that worked with local bike clubs to sponsor a first-ever bike parade, hoping for 100 participants. Check out the picture and note the fun of more than 350 patriotic cyclists wheeling their way around town. Congratulations … When Jerry Bunin, longtime pal, familiar face and strong voice for the Homebuilders Association asks for a line in FYI, it’s tough to say no, especially when the item is for Jerry’s other life as a mover and shaker in the Arroyo Grande Dog Park. How do you resist a first ever “Puttin’ on the Dog Fair” coming up on Aug. 21 in Arroyo Grande? With a BBQ, vendors, dog demos and come-on-you-have-to-love-it “Mutt-Strut Parade,” well heck, let’s show the dog lovers a little support.

BRAGGING RIGHTS

July 16th, 2010

The most recent issue of the prestigious Bender’s Labor & Employment Bulletin includes not one, but two articles written by Andre, Morris & Buttery attorneys Kathy Eppright and Dennis Law. Maybe not your easiest reading, but well worth touting: “California Supreme Court Vacates Arbitration Award for Legal Error” and “Ninth Circuit Decision Demonstrates Breadth of Federal Class Action Fairness Act” … Jerry Michael, Engineering Division leader and principal at RRM Design Group, has been elected president of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), representing over 5,300 firms in California. Maybe Jerry can lure members to the Central Coast for an annual conference … And more big-time leadership from right here at home: SLO County EVC president and CEO Mike Manchak has been elected to the board of directors for the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED), California’s leading statewide economic development organization.

BCA BLURB

July 16th, 2010

BCA was so impressed by the 2010 graduating class of Cal Poly’s graphic design program that our creative director, Isaac Horton, snagged two of the group’s hot shots and put them to work. Welcome to Jennifer Liu and Christine Marin – designers, computer whizzes, bright, fun, creative and oh-so-savvy new media champs. You’ll be seeing lots more from these two.

LOCAL BEAT

July 1st, 2010

The SLO Symphony team, Executive Director Brian Hermanson, John Baer, Music Director Michael Nowak and Music Education Director Andrea Stoner

Former talk show host Jenny Jones is no stranger to the Central Coast. She performed in SLO years ago as a standup comedienne on stage at the old William Randolph’s (now Holiday Inn Express). Her path crossed ours again recently when her “Jenny’s Heroes” Foundation surprised Arroyo Grande resident John Baer with a phone call and great news: a $4,000 grant to fund instruments for the SLO Symphony’s Music Van. The van travels the county to expose kids to the hands-on fun of music. Baer is a devoted Symphony volunteer …  John Ewan and his team at Pacific Energy help with the juice that

Pacific Energy's installation at Cass Winery. While the field produces wine, the solar installation produces 45 KW per hour.

produces the juice at Cass Winery.  A new solar array designed and installed by Pacific Energy is now keeping company with the vines … Two local photographers share their art in collections that will stir your home town pride. Tom Peck’s “The Fair” captures the many moods of California Mid-State Fairgoers in a month long show at Paso Robles’ Studios on the Park. And Chris Leschinsky’s talent for showcasing Central Coast landmarks and scenery can be enjoyed on his stock photo website, www.theCaliforniaArchive.com … Paso native son and much loved, fab-o media sales rep John Osman (his dad was the famous and equally well loved “Coach O” at Flamson Middle School in Paso for 38 years) has been on the sidelines battling a debilitating bout of Valley Fever for the last eleven months. John beat it back and has returned to work, tearing up the circuit for KPRL Radio in Paso Robles. Welcome back, Johnny-O … And kudos to local favorite and the just-wrapped Atascadero Wine Festival. Changing the event hours from mid day to 4-8 p.m. made for a perfect evening at the lake. 80 wineries and several thousand people agree.
