BRAGGING RIGHTS

May 26th, 2011

Congratulations to Ermina Karim, newly named next president and CEO of the SLO Chamber. We could make a crack about filling the very big shoes of the retiring-July 1 Dave Garth, but after 38+ years, those shoes are more like chest high waders. And speaking of the Chamber, Kristin Mehiel and her crew pulled off a grand slam success with a packed-to-the-gills Mixer Showcase last week at the Madonna Inn Expo. Bravos all around … SLO-based insurance superstar Connie Framberger has qualified for the 11th year as a Leading Producer’s Round Table member for the National Association of Health Underwriters. This puts her in the rarified air of lifetime membership … KSBY-TV has been nominated for 2 Emmy awards: One for best newscast and a second for a fun promo heralding Carina Corral’s return to co anchoring Daybreak with Richard Gearhart. Award ceremony is coming up in June … Lots of good news for Brandon and Shannon Downing. First his work as creative director at KSBY gets an Emmy nomination, then Shannon is honored as “Colleague of the Year” by her peers at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Congrats all around … Bob Poole is familiar to oil industry folks on the central coast as a longtime manager for WSPA, the Western States Petroleum Association (oil industry trade association). Bob’s taken all the great experience and joined the fast-moving team at energy exploration company Santa Maria Pacific, where he is managing government affairs.

BCA BLURB

May 26th, 2011

Sometime there’s just so much good news coming out of BCA we just can’t keep it to ourselves. Take this week, for example. BCA got the nod from the City of Morro Bay TBID and Community Promotions Committee to handle tourism marketing for the city. Shari Clark will lead the charge, and her timing is perfect: Shari and Teri Conklin, another BCA super talent, received accreditation as social marketing experts. Morro Bay is just one of the BCA clients who will benefit. Meanwhile, we launched our fun and creative Caboodle social marketing experience (noted above), the brainchild of biz development guy Scott Morrell, and Brian Trapp nabbed a speaking slot with the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce. And just today, we were tapped for two Communicator Awards for the work done Performing Arts Center’s new website and Cal Poly’s Sustainability Report.

Gourmet food trucks are all the rage, and now SLO has one of its own: rev it up for Porter’s Gourmet on the Go, making rounds for breakfast and lunch daily. Owner Duncan Porter specializes in local ingredients and will happily add a stop to his route. Thanks to FYI reader (and Porter fan) Katie Weber for the tip … Attendees at the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market at Central Coast Plaza in SLO are discovering new vendors. The market has added some intriguing food offerings including Mediterranean specialties, organic dairy products, Indian delicacies, pomegranate juice and more. Market Manager Peter Jankay and his board are always thinking up new ideas to keep fresh even fresher … Another bite at a very tasty apple: the folks at Andre, Morris & Buttery have created podcasts of speaker presentations from the firm’s recent Central Coast Business Symposium. Find them at www.amblaw.com … The peace loving jewelry folks of From War to Peace are making great strides in marketing their product in jewelry stores. Just added: six locations of the Seattle-area favorite and very cool store, Fireworks. Even if you only get as far as Sea-Tac Airport, you can see for yourself. Fireworks has a large location in the airport’s expansive restaurant area … Yep, that was Atascadero High School students speaking up on the Today Show last week. Impressive group of kids talking on a tough topic … Well wishes go with Jon Fugler as he ends a 16-year run at KLIFE Radio. Next up is SLO’s extravaganza on May 18th at the Madonna Expo Center.
