Coffee giant Starbucks is using Facebook and a little creative fun to usher in its fall coffee line. Its Pumpkin Spice Latte, a fan favorite, was scheduled to make it back to the barista bar. By offering up daily challenges and social media outreach, caffeine lovers will compete for bragging rights as the first city to bring the pumpkiny goodness back for the season. What can we learn from this? With a little creativity and some social media ingenuity, your business can add a little social media light to your product or service.  Talk about thinking outside the cup – er, box.

When Achievement House decided it needed a couple of videos to showcase its amazing longtime community work, it tapped BCA to help tell its story. Led by BCA’s Brian Trapp, filming included Firestone Walker Brewery as one of the businesses who employ Achievement House clients. Videographer Todd Peterson of Red Canary and Mike Metcalf of Achievement House are seen here grabbing a shot (not a beer) for use in the video … Sunset Magazine‘s Katie Tamony is the special guest of the SLO County Visitors and Conference Bureau next Wednesday. The group is hosting a reception for local tourism industry leaders at Atascadero’s Galaxy Theatres. Wine and food samplings in the VIP lounge; on screen entertainment, updates on SAVOR and more are on the program … Twenty-eight Cal Poly MBA students have returned from a “learn by doing” tour of China led by Orfalea College of Business Professor Chris Carr. Trip highlights included meetings with top business leaders from prominent Chinese companies and socializing with Chinese MBA students from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) and Tsinghua UniversityChristine and Lee Johnson lead busy – and productive – lives. Lee is the new president and CEO of Mainstream Energy, a SLO-based renewable energy company whose business units include REC Solar and AEE Solar. Christine is one of the organizers of the wildly popular Morro Bay 4th of July bike parade and a new board member for the SLO County United Way. And on top of that, the couple and their young son are members of the North Morro Bay team competing with seven other West Coast families in Sunset Magazine’s “One Block Feast” contest. Deadline Oct. 3 … The very busy SLO City Council member Andrew Carter just got busier: he is teaching two Cuesta College business courses this semester … There’s always something fun happening on the Central Coast, and this week we offer a couple of North County notables: Friday night it’s Hot August Nights – cruisers and street dance – in Atascadero; Saturday the Olive Festival in Paso Robles … Speaking of cars, Morro Bay’s annual car show got the attention of Car Craft Magazine. North County residents Wayne and Wendy Hughes were so taken with the Disaster Response Trailer all-volunteer effort of the Atascadero Fire Department that they stepped up with a $5,200 contribution to fund the trailer’s communications’ compartment. Watch a video on this amazing project. Wayne is pictured with Fire Department members and Captain Matt Miranda’s children.
