Is your band ready to make the big time? Want to take your violin-playing abilities on the road and make money doing it? The Cuesta College Business and Entrepreneurship Center is hosting “Musicians as Entrepreneurship, The Business Side of Music” featuring speaker Donald C. Gorder of Berklee College of Music on Friday, Oct. 14 at 1-5 p.m. Purchase tickets online … The SLO Children’s Museum hosts its annual fall benefit on Friday night in Avila Beach. When Shelley McConnell Concannon is chair and the theme is “How the West Was Fun,” well, heck, you better know it’s gonna be fun. Longtime tireless museum volunteer Ashala Lawler is the most-deserving honoree … The History Center of San Luis Obispo (formerly the SLO County Historical Museum) is high kicking on Saturday. Start at the Carnegie Library Museum in SLO with the unveiling of a new exhibit, “French Connections: Art, Wine and Exploration,” a tribute to adventurer and SLO luminary Pierre Dallidet. After the museum the party moves to, where else, the Dallidet Adobe, for a reception designed with a nod to Pierre’s French roots and the vision that led him to develop the county’s first commercial winery … Atascadero Firefighters are still working to make their goal of $100,000 needed to outfit the all-volunteer effort Disaster Response Trailer. PG&E has stepped up to help, granting the crew a $25,000 boost and challenging community members to match the dollars. “$50,000 in 50 Days” is the goal, and it’s doable. Check it out on Facebook.

BRAGGING RIGHTS

Last FYI we mentioned our pride in a BCA-designed logo for the new Serra Meadows housing development in SLO, but, duh, we neglected to show you just what we were talking about. We herewith present the work with a nod to designer Christine Marin … And call him a chip off the high achieving parents block: little Carter Downing was born ten weeks early, but will have none of that teeny baby business. He is quickly outgrowing the Sierra Vista NICU and will be heading home soon. Proud Dad Brandon (KSBY TV’s Creative Services Director) and Mom Shannon (Sierra Vista’s Manager of Physician Relations & Marketing) are more than ready. Best wishes to a terrific trio.

Now, we knew she was mighty with her design skills. But mighty AND fast? We’re proud of our designer, Christine Marin, who competed in the City To The Sea Half Marathon last weekend. She ran 13.1 miles from downtown SLO to Pismo Beach in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 30 seconds. That’s a girl who goes with gusto. Well done, Christine.
