SEEN & HEARD

December 1st, 2011

The tragic death of KSBY employee Tricia Rittger in an accident just days ago leaves our community saddened. KSBY and Chili’s restaurants are offering a way to help: print the attached flier and head to Chili’s in Arroyo Grande, Paso or Goleta today (Thursday) or Friday and 15% of your meal proceeds will be provided to the fund set up for Tricia’s family … SLO High alum Ricky Villa is a whiz kid working in San Diego for Naughty Dog, a Sony company. And he’s added quite a feather in his gamer hat – he was on the team that developed Sony’s new video phenom, “Uncharted 3” … A good one got away: longtime local John Zuchelli has left his position as news director for KCOY-TV/KKFX in Santa Maria to be the assignment editor for KNTV, the NBC affiliate for the Bay Area … Our friends at Longcrier and Associates CPA’s remind us that now is a great time to offer year end contributions to the many nonprofit organizations that serve locally and beyond. And if you plan to claim the gift as a charitable contribution for tax purposes, get proper documentation so the IRS doesn’t go Grinch in the new year.

BCA BLURB

January 27th, 2011

All of us at BCA are beyond shocked and saddened at the passing of Joanne Main, president and CEO of the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce. Joanne is a longtime personal friend of ours. Maggie Cox and Joanne worked together at the SLO Chamber in the 1980’s, had children at the same time and enjoyed working and playing together. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Main Family.

BCA BLURB

January 13th, 2011

We close FYI this week noting the devastating loss of three amazing people: former KSBY anchor and longtime PG&E exec Missie Hobson; former KSBY sales manager and Cal Poly football player Pete Magnusson, and Maggie Cox’s brother, Mike Henderson. The trio shared much in common: all were extraordinary in how they lived their lives and the impacts they had on others. All had remarkable senses of humor. They all fought brutal fights with cancer and were unbelievably inspiring in the process. Missie, Mike and Pete passed within a week of each other at Christmas time and were only in their 50’s. As we begin to adjust to life without these three dear friends in it, we’re reminded again that we must do something to beat this terrible disease.

BCA joins with the community in extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the four humanitarians killed in last week’s plane crash. The dedicated service of Drs. James Thornton and Graciela Sarmiento, student Andrew Thiel and Roger Lyon leaves behind a powerful legacy, but does not dull the pain of loss.
