BRAGGING RIGHTS

And speaking of Tim Seidel, the ConocoPhillips Facility manager, he did double duty recently – dashing between meetings to see his seven year old son Liam do some dashes all his own. The little athlete was a big star at Coastal Christian School. Who says all American kids are sedentary? … Leslie Hall of the SLO County Builders Exchange received a certificate of completion for a 40-hour HAZ-WOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response). She is now trained for emergency evacuation procedures, understanding the chemical properties of explosives and other skills she will hopefully never have to use.

Thinkin’ Pink is what the Nipomo High School Girl’s Golf Team did when the team hosted the Los Padres League Tournament at Monarch Dunes Golf Course on Oct. 7. The NHS Girls Golf Team invited all of the LPL League teams to wear pink to the tournament in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And these girls know how to work a theme – pink attire, pink lemonade, pink cookies and pink cupcakes, all to show their dedication to the fight against Breast Cancer. Makes you proud of the young generation … It’s been a busy time at Impact Absorbents in Atascadero. The designer and manufacturers of products used to clean up spills of all kinds recently provided materials to the Port San Luis Harbor District for a hazmat training drill (that was harmless green dye in the water). Impact also donated a supply of absorbent booms, pads and pillows to the SLO County Sheriff’s Dive Team for use during salvage and recovery operations involving hazardous materials.

The Thoma chiefs and leaders: Pearl & Bud (front) and sons Ed and Bill (back).

Thoma Electric Company has earned many accolades over the years for impeccable electric design and construction, generous community support and for being one great company. It’s nice to see the news spread over three counties as it did this week when Pacific Coast Business Times selected Thoma Electric to receive the Spirit of Small Business Award in San Luis Obispo County. Congratulations to the Thoma team, especially present day chiefs Bill and Ed, and the company’s dedicated founders, parents Bud and Pearl Thoma … Congratulations to first time grandpa, Wade McKinney, Atascadero CAO whose gorgeous granddaughter Hannah was the centerpiece of a recent five-generation photo. Son Jay, and daughter-in-law Courtney, are the proud parents. Wade is happy to share photos.

Project Surf Camp gives special needs youngsters a taste of catching a wave.

Project Surf Camp helps introduce special needs children and adults to the joy of the ocean.  This amazing Morro Bay program was scheduled to be featured this morning on the NBC Today Show. We went to press before we could see the story, but here’s the mention online. More inspiring stories at the project website.
