From castles to ranching; beef to wine: the new “History of Hearst Ranch” display in the Hearst Castle Visitor Center tells a fascinating story. And it has that local touch we love – photo archive search by Hearst employee Mitch Barrett; researched and written by Cambria’s own Susan McDonald with the display designed and built by Susan’s master wood craftsman husband Bob McDonald … Computer whiz company TekTegrity has acquired the IT support business of Integrated Advantage, a Fresno-based computer and network service company. The move into the Central Valley marks TekTegrity’s third acquisition in less than a year … Sonnie Brown, whose name is as familiar as her voice to KCBX listeners, has been named Volunteer Director for Hospice of SLO County. And Sonnie’s no newcomer to Hospice: she has volunteered with the organization since the mid-1990’s … Local moneyman Clay Appleton has joined Cal Coastal Rural Development Corporation. Cal Coastal provides loans and financial services to Central Coast businesses and farms … Give Mission Community Services Corp two hours and they’ll give you an orientation to entrepreneurship. Gourmet food trucks are all the rage, and now SLO has one of its own: rev it up for Porter’s Gourmet on the Go, making rounds for breakfast and lunch daily. Owner Duncan Porter specializes in local ingredients and will happily add a stop to his route. Thanks to FYI reader (and Porter fan) Katie Weber for the tip … Attendees at the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market at Central Coast Plaza in SLO are discovering new vendors. The market has added some intriguing food offerings including Mediterranean specialties, organic dairy products, Indian delicacies, pomegranate juice and more. Market Manager Peter Jankay and his board are always thinking up new ideas to keep fresh even fresher … Another bite at a very tasty apple: the folks at Andre, Morris & Buttery have created podcasts of speaker presentations from the firm’s recent Central Coast Business Symposium. Find them at www.amblaw.com … The peace loving jewelry folks of From War to Peace are making great strides in marketing their product in jewelry stores. Just added: six locations of the Seattle-area favorite and very cool store, Fireworks. Even if you only get as far as Sea-Tac Airport, you can see for yourself. Forward motion: not only are the long-ago unfinished condos on the South Street Hills now being completed, but an exciting new project is arriving in downtown SLO. Garden Green condominiums, slated for the lot located at 1323 Garden Street, will boast classic Italianesque exteriors and high-end “green” amenities throughout. The condos are designed by multiple-award-winning architect Thom Brajkovich. Check out this beautiful downtown living experience … Local Chevron rep Suzanne Parker is a Tuscaloosa native who was on the phone with her mom when the tornado hit the family home. Suzanne’s mom escaped unharmed but suffered extensive property damage in a neighborhood that was completely wiped out. Suzanne notes that social media was the “go to” tool that helped people find each other, with Twitter and Facebook relays providing peace of mind. Her message for how to help: donate blood, contribute to the Red Cross and remember to always keep gas in your car and cash on hand in case of need to evacuate during power outages … On the Move: James Shammas has joined Neal Truesdale as a sales executive, and Terry Veal, he of the great announcer voice, has joined the sales team at Community VW of Santa Maria and BMW of Santa Maria. And we are bummed to lose the talents of Amy Jacobs on KSTT Radio and Dave Schermer, KSBY News Director … Kudos to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for having its neurological services recognized with a Gold Certification as a Primary Stroke Center.
