Avila Beach

The Economic Vitality Corporation has all kinds of interesting news about local companies. We loved the sound of this one: Penny Revolution™ Inc., based in SLO. This start-up company uses material from recycled plastic milk cartons to manufacture patented, reusable coin banks called Toggle Tubes ®. No more counting coins – just load, snap the ends and cash in … Talk about hands-on fun for the Leadership SLO class: a recent session on healthcare issues included a fun opportunity to try out the “DaVinci” surgical robot at Sierra Vista. This new darling of local surgeons is being used on procedures from hysterectomies to lung surgery. Note the leadership classmates never got near a real body … The Compact Gallery is just that – an intriguing space showcasing interesting art. Check it out at 1166 Higuera Street, open Wednesdays through Saturdays, noon to 6 … It’s a perfect time of year to get outside and pedal around our spectacular nooks and crannies. RRM Design Group’s current newsletter offers an easy guide to great bike rides.  … And speaking of gorgeous scenery, enjoy a view of Avila Beach as seen recently through the eyes and artistry of BCA Creative Director Isaac Horton.

John & Sandy Dunn

The talents of John Dunn, retired SLO City CAO and this year’s SLO Chamber Citizen of the Year, are in demand in many communities these days. John has agreed to tackle one – the financially-strapped-needs-a-great-leader City of Rohnert Park (adjacent to Santa Rosa) as Interim CAO starting Monday. Wife Sandy will join him for a few weeks every month during the six-month assignment … We had occasion recently to talk with Lon Allan, Atascadero’s resident historian and one of the county’s best known newspaper writers, about his book, Atascadero: The Vision of One – The Work of Many. BREAKING NEWS

May 4th, 2010

Great news we just can’t wait to share: Mission Community Bank CEO Anita Robinson has built a bank based in financial savvy and a fierce commitment to the local community. That tradition continues with the announcement of a new member of the board of directors who readily shares MCB’s vision – Jim Lokey, former president of Rabobank. Jim will work with Anita and MCB President Brooks Wise to lead Mission Community Bank in a significant central coast expansion. Jim will succeed North Coast rancher and former County Supervisor Bill Coy as executive chairman of the board. Bill will move to vice chair, replacing current Vice Chair Roxanne Carr, who is retiring from the board following 13 years of service that began with the bank’s founding in 1997. As for Jim and Anita, not only are they banking colleagues and longtime friends, but each also held the president position at the California Banking Association. In fact, Anita passed the gavel to Jim when her term ended and his began in 2008. Kudos and thanks to Roxanne for her service, welcome back to community banking, Jim, and congratulations to Anita and her board for a fine find.
