BCA SOCIAL

Social media is the current darling of the how-to-market toolbox, and for good reason – it works. But while every branding effort begins with identifying the target customer and determining the best venue for reaching him/her, there’s a critical next step when it comes to social media: conversation.

Old Spice Guy

When BCA’s Scott Morrell chatted with a handful of business leaders last week, he explained how fusing traditional and social media methods can deliver the best marketing results. TV, radio or print ads can send viewers online to interact directly with brands. Old Spice used TV commercials and a fast-growing viral campaign to re-brand Old Spice. The effort resoundingly reinforced this winning strategy – Old Spice sales DOUBLED for the month. Check out how they did it. And learn how to implement your own traditional/social media fusion strategy by e-mailing Scott at smorrell@barnettcox.com.

BCA BLURB

Volunteer Sharon Young shows Lindsay Cox how to work that new college degree.

It’s that time of year, and BCA recognizes standout grads and an upcoming college senior: BCA interns Marie Christoffersen and Alisha Axsom and crackerjack Graphic Designer Kristin Savage. We knew we’d have to say goodbye to our interns, but we’ve had to add Kristin to that list, as she and her fiancé, Mike McCarty move to the Bay Area. Mike, a Cal Poly engineering grad student has received a prestigious job with PG&E, and Kristin, darn it, has skills that transfer anywhere … And finally, what kind of family-owned business would we be if we didn’t acknowledge our own Lindsay Cox, who graduated with a communications degree from Chico State on a Sunday – and cut short her after-grad vacation time to man the booth at Hunger Awareness Day. Congratulations!

BREAKING NEWS

May 4th, 2010

Great news we just can’t wait to share: Mission Community Bank CEO Anita Robinson has built a bank based in financial savvy and a fierce commitment to the local community. That tradition continues with the announcement of a new member of the board of directors who readily shares MCB’s vision – Jim Lokey, former president of Rabobank. Jim will work with Anita and MCB President Brooks Wise to lead Mission Community Bank in a significant central coast expansion. Jim will succeed North Coast rancher and former County Supervisor Bill Coy as executive chairman of the board. Bill will move to vice chair, replacing current Vice Chair Roxanne Carr, who is retiring from the board following 13 years of service that began with the bank’s founding in 1997. As for Jim and Anita, not only are they banking colleagues and longtime friends, but each also held the president position at the California Banking Association. In fact, Anita passed the gavel to Jim when her term ended and his began in 2008. Kudos and thanks to Roxanne for her service, welcome back to community banking, Jim, and congratulations to Anita and her board for a fine find.

SEEN & HEARD

March 25th, 2010

When Galaxy Theatres agreed to be part of Atascadero’s Colony Square, developer Jim Harrison snagged more than a film company. Check out this video of what Galaxy did for Gig Harbor, Wash. No wonder Atascadero is starry eyed over the possibilities. A contingent of Atascadero civic leaders is road tripping to a Galaxy site in Tulare next week to see the operation firsthand …

No 28, Linda Somers Smith of Duggan Smith & Heath

Attorney Linda Somers Smith (Duggan Smith & Heath) continues to prove she’s fabulous at more than the law. The longtime runner, who will be 49 soon, tackled the LA Marathon and took first for age 40 and over; sixth place among all women who raced (the first five are in their 20’s) and eighteenth overall among the 20,000 racers. Linda’s performance qualified her for the Olympic Trials for the record seventh time.
