SEEN & HEARD

September 23rd, 2010

It’s not often we use our own blog to promote politics, but the disaster that is Measure H must be stopped. We oppose this crazy plan and we’re happy to be joined by literally hundreds of community, public safety, sports, neighborhood and other leaders. It’s confusing – just remember this: you must Vote NO if you want to finish Prado Road. And boy, do we. Can you help by posting a yard sign in SLO (commercial or residential)? Visit the website and send in an e-mail, please … Two tops worth celebrating: Galaxy Theatres’ ten-screen techno-fab movie palace is well under way in Atascadero’s Colony Square, slated to open in March of 2011. A flag was raised at a recent topping-off ceremony heralding the forward progress. And the literal icing on the cake was provided by Atascadero’s own Cassie’s Specialty Cakes, who dazzled with an array of cupcakes sporting the Galaxy logo … It’s been five months in the making, and now the dazzlingly all-new, yes-you-can-even-print tickets website for the Performing Arts Center has gone live. The PAC revamped its site to move patrons online for event information, and the new product really moves. Hats off to the BCA-PAC team who made things happen: from BCA, web wonderguy Isaac Horton and detail diva Teri Conklin; and from the PAC, Melody Klemin, Nancy Cochran and Ron Regier. FPAC’s Cory Karpin was at the table, too. Let’s just say this gang makes beautiful music together – online and off. Bravo! … And the PAC news doesn’t stop there. On Saturday, immerse yourself in local music and performances at the second annual BRAVO SLO! from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the beautiful Performing Arts Center – all for free. Drink a little wine and win door prizes in between shows. Melody Klemin has been working tirelessly to promote the event. Check out what she did for LAST year’s BRAVO SLO! Ah, creativity abounds at the PAC.

The No on Measure H group is working feverishly to make sure 20 years of planning and future sports fields aren’t done in by a crazy ballot initiative. No on H Campaign leaders John Spatafore, Stacey White and Hillary Trout are a trio that inspires followers, and they’ve amassed an impressive list of supporters. Check it out and sign up to help at NoOnMeasureH.com … The Central Coast Economic Forecast group is well underway to producing a bang-up event November 5th. Save the date and earmark some dollars to help sponsor the program that keeps solid economic data coming our way. Speaking of economic data – the City of SLO offers a quarterly sales tax report that is full of info. And while the most recent report (first quarter 2010) showed a .5 percent decline, it was the lowest decrease in several years. We’re hoping that means things will continue to improve.
